THE LATE BISHOP FREDERICK D. PATTERSON
AMBASSADORS FOR CHRIST REVIVALS, INC.
SENIOR PASTOR & FOUNDER - AMBASSADOR CATHEDRAL

God's Man Of Faith And Power Will Be Greatly Missed
As He Has Touched, Shaped, Inspired and Affected The Lives of Many

Sunrise: March 29, 1927     Sunset: October 15, 2011

Bishop Patterson served as Senior Pastor, Co-Founder and Overseer of Ambassador Cathedral.  He was the Presiding Prelate of the Ambassadors for Christ Revivals, Inc., a non-denominational ministry.

Bishop F.D. Patterson was born March 29, 1927 in Bucyrus, Ohio to the late Charles Edgar and Cinderella Elizabeth Patterson.

Bishop Patterson grew up and attended high school in Indianapolis, Indiana.  Inspired by George Washington Carver, he pursued a career in science.  Beginning his studies at Butler University in Indianapolis; ultimately, God changed his career plans.  He left Butler University after accepting his call to ministry and received his formal training for ministry at the College of the Scriptures in Louisville, Kentucky.   The Lord moved Bishop Patterson to Winston-Salem, North Carolina as a bible college professor of the Winston-Salem Bible College.  More recently he completed his Masters of Theology Degree from Andersonville Baptist Seminary in Camilla, Ga.

On March 23, 1957, he was united in marriage to the former Dorothy Douglas.  They have been married for over fifty years, and have a total of eight natural children, three adopted daughters, twenty-nine grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren.

Ambassador Cathedral became a reality in March of 1964 in the former “Save Way Store” located on 23rd Street in Winston-Salem, NC.  In 1967, the church moved to 10th and Patterson Avenue.  Finally in 1970, Bishop and Mother Patterson along with 35 teenagers moved the church to its present location.  God has continually given the ministry favor under the leadership of Bishop Patterson.

Above all these gifts and talents that the Lord bestowed upon Bishop Patterson, it was evident that his desire is to be a teacher and preacher after God's own heart; to abound in the work of the Lord, to win the lost to Christ; to prepare the believers for the return of the Lord and to present him with a glorious church in that day.

There are many leadership qualities needed in the role of a pastor's wife.  These qualities vary with time and change as the ministry progresses.  A leader is: watched, sought out, expected to lead and expected to love.  Like a leader, a pastor's wife is also watched, sought out by others, expected to take the lead and expected to love those around her.

These qualities are personified when in the presence of her grace, Mother Dorothy D. Patterson – a woman of quiet nature with powerful influence.

Lady Patterson has shared in ministry with her husband, Bishop Frederick D. Patterson for over 58 years.  In May of 2005, Lady Patterson along with Bishop Patterson, celebrated 42 years of pastoral leadership at Ambassador Cathedral – a non-denominational ministry co-founded by she and the late Bishop Patterson in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Additionally, Mother Patterson…

  • Was educated in the Winston-Salem Forsyth Co. Schools.
  • On March 23, 1957, she was united in marriage to Bishop Frederick D. Patterson.  They are the proud parents of eight children, a host of loving grandchildren and three adopted daughters.
  • She is the founder of the East Coast Pentecostal Women’s Convention that meets annually in September.  This year’s convention will mark the 22nd spirit-filled gathering of Pentecostal women.
  • She is the Coordinator of the church’ Meals on Wheels program for senior citizens.  Currently the program provides a hot, balanced meal for more than 200 senior citizens in the Winston-Salem community
  • Serves as supervisor of the Youth Department.
  • Owner and proprietor of Dorothy’s House of Beauty Boutique and La Petite Catering Services.
  • An active member of the Meridian Chapter 308 Order of the Eastern Star.

Just as seasons of the year change, leadership roles have changed with the seasons of life.  As a pastor’s wife, Mother Patterson, has a ministry of obedience and desire to please God.  Her “words of wisdom” for other pastors' wives is found in Hebrews 13:20-21:  "May God...equip you with everything good for doing His will and may He work in us what is pleasing to Him through Jesus Christ to whom be glory forever and ever.  AMEN."

Ministries

Worship and Arts Ministry: Through the vision of  Bishop F. D. Patterson, Sr., whom God has anointed to reach young people since the 1960s, God gave him the word that the art of  liturgical dancing would attract the young and help enhance their understanding of the Word of God.  The AC Dance Company was started in 1995 then under leadership of  Dawn M. Darby. The Worship and Arts Ministry has since grown and is now under the anointed leadership of Davida Allen-Tuttle and Tamara Thomas-Edwards. The ministry now consist of  The AC Dance Company, The Men of  Purpose, and the Hands of Praise.  Because of God’s anointing and the teaching received from their Bishop, God has blessed the AC Dance Company to minister in several youth services and workshops throughout North Carolina and Virginia. The goal of the ministry is not just dancing, “but to be like David, wearing linen ephod, dancing before the Lord with all his might.” II Samuel 6:14.
